They sure are. Size of the brain doesn't always affect intelligence level, like most people seem to believe... Some birds are even smarter than some types of dogs, but dogs obviously have a much bigger brain.
And that's so sweet! I rescued a bird (forgot which kind) that got caught by a cat at one point and couldn't fly... But I didn't have the knowledge to help the bird all on my own, so I found out about a lady who lived fairly close to me who rescues injured birds and gave the poor bird to her. I never found out if the bird ended up being okay, but he was definitely in good hands, and the woman said he would probably be okay after antibiotics and not flying for a while.
