Who am I?

Hello people of Steemit,

I am a 21-year-old creative from Birmingham, England. I am currently studying my final year of Photographic Arts BA at the University of Westminster, London. Throughout my life I have always been interested in creative activities. Whether it was learning new skateboard tricks with friends as a young teenager, or teaching myself how to DJ because of the need to do something productive with all the music I was collecting. Whilst studying graphic design at my old college In Birmingham I had come to realise that all of the personal ventures I had been on through my creative journey, I had not gained 100% satisfaction from - something was missing. I decided to go out and use a chunk of my student loan on a brand new Canon 700d DSLR camera with 18-55 STM lens and at the time I was instantly fascinated with the medium. For weeks on end after that I would be out on the streets, tirelessly exploring the depths of what I had already encountered but never chose to investigate. Exploring the abandoned buildings of Birmingham's industrial area, Digbeth - Climbing high points I should not have been, whilst meeting fellow photographers whose interests were similar to my own. This newly acquired documentation tool gave me a reason to be doing such things and 3 years on, I continue to the same infactuation with the practice of photography, freelancing it and studying it.

Why am I using Steemit?

As a main means of uploading my photography and visual work I would use Instagram to get my work out there amongst the network of people I had developed on there in the 2 years I had the app. I found myself becoming tired of Instagram for many of reasons, including the way it started to become cluttered with irrelevant content. The advertising features started to impose themselves upon you whilst scrolling down the feed, with the algorithms meaning that you might not necessarily see posts chronologically, essentially meaning you could miss out on what was important. Also to my distaste was the 'story' feature which was ever so similar to how Snapchat functions - many additions I believe have helped strip away the core foundations of Instagram, instead turning it into a clone of it's older brother, Facebook. Funnily enough I came across Steemit through Luke Rudkowski, the founder and host of Youtube channel 'Wearechange', who was stressing the amount of demonitisation and censoring taking place on his content on there. Here in the UK Steemit is not as popular as in the US - 95% of people I know if I asked them would not know of its existence - that was me until I was introduced to it through my research. From what I have grasped over the last day of exploring the site, it seems a great way not only for articles to be written and knowledge to be shared but also for creatives to output their work.  My plan for Steemit is to share my projects with this growing community and help in the rise of what looks to be an extremely promising means of social media that rewards quality content over anything else.

Thank you for taking the time out to read my introduction. I am looking forward to becoming part of the Steemit community. I hope you enjoy my work and the meaning behind everything I create whether that be photography, design, installation art and so on.
