Spot of the day - Tietgenkollegiet, a futuristic student residence in Copenhagen.
Since I live near this award-winning, stunning circular dormitory designed by Lundgaard & Trandberg Architects, I wanted to do a post about the Tietgen Students' Residence in Coepnahgen. These are images that I took on a couple of outings with my Nikon D700 and a Nikkor 24-85mm 3.5-4.5G ED lens. The last image, in which I am sitting on a chair, I got using the timer and my tripod.
This place is home to about 400 students and the waiting list for a spot here is said to be really long (years). It has a really cool inner courtyard too that I will try to take some shots of too one of these days. It really is quite an interesting architectural concept and I can see the appeal of it aside from all the media hype.
According to Archdaily.com, the circular form of the building is a symbol of: "equality and the communal is contrasted with individual, projecting volumes expressing the individual residences. The principle inspiration for the project is this meeting of the collective and the individual, a characteristic inherent to the dormitory building type."

I still can't believe that we live next to an architectural masterpiece like this!!! But, to be perfectly honest, applause to the photographer too - I don't know if it's that great in reality or if just your pictures are simply amazing ;)
Many thanks babe! :) We should have a beer around there soon enough...
We should... :)
Thanks for sharing this article. It's rather informative.
You're welcome! Glad you liked it!
That is once freaky ass building :p
Yep :) It really is.
That's an interesting-looking building. Can't say as I, personally, find it aesthetically appealing, but it is at least different and fascinating. The courtyard would be a real plus, especially if it's a green space. Did the architect incorporate solar or wind power generation, or make use of the roof for gardening? That would be a nice t ouch!
Nice photos!
Thank you! It has a nice green space in the courtyard but I have no clue about the roof or any solar/wind power generation. I will try to get some shots of the courtyard... :)
