Rock Kestrel
Here in Cape Town South Africa we have a few small nature reserves inside the city, one of my favorite things to do is to go for a walk in these reserves and take my camera with me, because you never know what you will find there.
On this specific walk I was looking for birds to photograph but the birds were nowhere to be found, this is not normal for Rietvlei nature reserve at all, normally there are lots of little birds bouncing around on the vegetation, chirping and scavenging for food.
Then I found the reason that there were no birds, a rock kestrel, a truly beautiful bird of prey was sitting on the boardwalk hand rail, he was completely calm with me there, we sat there staring at each other for a good 5 minutes, my phone was buzzing with emails and messages, but I just ignored my phone and appreciated this beautiful bird.
Finding birds like this inside the city is definitely not common, in fact they are not common at all, so having the opportunity to see one from this close is a real privilege!
