Beautiful Hoya Bella flowers

Many people are drawn to hoyas because of their flowers. These flowers differ a lot from one species to another, and sometimes the same species can have flowers in different colors.

They often have a sweet, pleasant smell. It can be tricky to tell apart different hoya varieties unless they are blooming. But with a trained eye, small differences in leaf shape—whether between species or within the same species—can be seen and appreciated.

I have started collecting more hoyas in recent years. Part of this interest comes from my desire to learn more about the genus and understand it better.

Hoyas could become a very popular houseplant for several reasons. One is their beautiful flowers, which look like fancy cake decorations made from fondant. Many have a scent, though some do not, and a few can even smell unpleasant.

Most of the time, they smell stronger at night. This suggests that they are likely pollinated by nighttime insects like moths or beetles in their natural home.
