Shiny and New
Today during my lunch break I walked around downtown Columbus with my new little Fuji and snapped some shots of things that I saw. Historically downtown Columbus has been almost entirely full of business with very few people actually living there, but that's starting to change as several huge apartment buildings are in the process of being built. I'm curious to see what downtown will look like in 5 years!
This snazzy new apartment building caught my eye with its shiny windows and haphazardly-placed, fence-less balconies.
Tell me this title isn't based off of Noah Gunderson, and I'll tickle myself.
Well then you'd better get to giggling boy! Really, it was not an intentional reference to New Religion, but there's a greater than 75% chance that it influenced my subconscious haha.
It looks so much like an old skool platformer...
I'd like to think I could make a couple of those jumps if I needed to... not, obviously, if a gorilla is heffing barrels at me.
Melbourne went through a similar thing... and the apartments actually filled with international uni students... which meant a heap of cafes and stuff opened up and stayed open late... which caused the city to become a cool little hangout. Before that all cafes would close at 3pm and the whole city would empty at 5pm.
Pardon my ignorance, but wtf is an old skool platformer?
Please come to Columbus and I will take pictures of you balcony jumping! Cool, good plan!
Yeah, right now downtown basically shuts down at 5. There's lots of other cool neighborhoods that have stuff open later, but it would be cool to have downtown alive at night as well!
Ahhhhh... okay, I did wonder if my entire thing might be super confusing.
By old skool platformer, I was talking about the original Donkey Kong/Mario game, or the first Prince of Persia... I'm sure there are a trillion games that look pretty much like this.
Great! I'll grab the first plane over... no time for harnesses!
Oooh that makes way more sense now. As someone who didn't play video games gorwing up, that wasn't a natural connection in my mind haha!
Purrrfect, holler when you're here!
Indeed, it is eye catching! The architects and engineers are really doing great jobs.
Agreed! Pretty cool looking!
I like the minimalism here!
Thanks! I'm trying to get better at using negative space and composition in my pictures. It's a work in progress haha
This one is great! I need to experiment more with negative space, too. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
Thanks! Just gave you a follow and look forward to seeing what you come up with :)
Cool, thanks! :) Just this evening I spent a couple hours watching tutorials on photographing architecture (this is a completely new field for me), and it's really exciting to learn about it! Here's to new horizons! :D

Nice shot. The suicide balconies are indeed eye-catching.
lol.. precisely my thought!
Thanks! Is that a real name for balconies like this?
Nah I made it up. But it could be I guess.
Works for me! ;)
