Sunny Days in Alabama Hills
A Sunrise to Remember
Nearly 12 hours of driving through the snow and mountains after Yosemite, we arrived at Alabama Hills at 3:30 am. There aren't many times in my life that I can remember being that tired, only to have to wake up in less than three hours to catch sunrise... and believe me you don't want to miss a good sunrise at Alabama Hills. The early morning light illuminates the Sierras perfectly but only for a few brief minutes. We'd finally found the sunshine we've been after since we started the trip.
Later in the day after sleeping for a few hours, we found a nice spot for lunch and sat in the sun for as long as we could. Having a fridge and cook setup in the truck meant we could eat a little more glamorously while out in the hot desert. The feeling of sun on our skin was ethereal, especially after the long and gray winter here in Washington.
Capping the day off, we ripped around the area in the truck taking photos for the company we were working for. There's nothing more fun than hauling ass on dirt roads as the sun goes down, especially in a place as beautiful as Alabama Hills. It was still early days on our trip but it set an awesome precedent and was a welcome relief to finally be in the sun. We wouldn't see rain for the entire trip except for a short time in Zion.
I hope you guys enjoy the photos and your weekends went well!!
That glow in the first photo is amazing!
Love the low light shot with the rig!
Those touches of light are really something man, well done!
Looks like a very cool place to explore! I didn't know Alabama had this sort of desert/scrub scenery.
There is something really striking about seeing snow and desert together. Really striking images @natebillings .
