Parisian Scenes #31
I love walking around Paris at night.
Somehow, the city of lights, as it baths in those same lights it is named after, can seem cleaner, softer, more accepting than during the day.
The Parisian autumn is a cold, harsh thing. The clouds and the occasional rain, the chilling wind that bites into your flesh and doesn't let go until you fight it off with a long, steaming shower at the end of the day. Everyone in Paris covers themselves now. Most people, the "classic French", will do so in layers of black and grey wool. Sometimes you'll see a bit of dark red or navy blue, a little coffee brown, but most are dark and somber colors. And the tourists, which make a wonderful contrast, will wear coats in happy and lively colors, like bright pink and yellow and sky blue, and will hold umbrellas of a similar palette. This is a nice way to tell which is which.
Paris in the autumn is walking around in the cold and watching your breath becoming visible, if only for a second, in the cold air. And then, once you've had enough, Paris in the autumn is also going to the nearby cafe and ordering some hot cocoa, "chocolat chaud", that fills you with nostalgia for childhood and warm-fuzzy feelings of warmth and love.
This is Paris in the autumn, the evening version. Too bad I don't get to do this enough - but at least I got to do it this week :-)

It was a good walk, too. I got some more photos from this little trip outside, I'll share them in future posts.
