Midnight Sun

in #photofeed6 years ago (edited)

Camping in the arctic under the midnight sun. This was taken along the Kungsleden at Singistugorna with Rusjka (1708m) and Unna Ruskkas (1477m) in the backdrop. The Kungsleden or King's Trail is a hiking trail in the far north of Sweden that is approximately 440-kilometre (270 mi) long, between Abisko in the north and Hemavan in the south. It passes through one of Europe's largest remaining wilderness areas. Lapland, Sweden

Wow. I could see myself hiking this trail one day! Was it crowded and how were the logistics?

No it is not crowded, at least when I was there, although that was some time ago. They have huts along the way and most have wood fired saunas (it is sweden after all). They also helicopter in food drops to every 2nd or 3rd hut and have an honesty system for these small food shops there. So you don't have to carry so much food. You would love it I am sure. It is 24 hour daylight so you can hike whenever you want to which helps to minimize jetlag. There is one section where you need to row a boat over a lake. It is logistically a long way north of Stockholm so it takes a couple of days on the train to get up there.

Thanks sounds very doable with a few weeks of time in the summer. Will keep this in mind.

Yep. Its epic. I must admit we used a helicopter to cut about 7 days off it and halve the time!

Incredibly great work!

Wow, such a great place!

A very beautiful landscape, that change of colors in the middle of the sky to the earth is simply spectacular

amazing picture! Did you hike the whole 440km? it must have been quite cold there right, especially at night? I'd love to read a longer post about your experience there

It looks quite windy and cold, so I'd prefer to be in one of those little cabins behind instead of the tents ;)
Is this image really shot at night? Beautiful!

Yes it is shot in the middle of the night. North of the arctic circle the sun never sets in the summer.

Thanks for your reply. I do know about the midnight sun, but it still is something incredible amazing for me and when I see an image like yours it's just unbelievable at first, if you know what I mean.

Yes it is even more unbelievable when your up there in it as your just expecting the sun to set but it never does.

It's amazing.
It's beautiful.KakaoTalk_20181020_201405605.jpg
