Chinese old photos by Sydney David Gamble in Hangchow 5

This is Baochu Pagoda from Sidney D. Gamble's lenses. It is located just north of the lake on top of Precious Stone Hill (宝石山). Its small base supports seven stories and gives it a distinctively slender and elegant appearance. In the photo we can observe a Western-style building located near the pagoda. The building once served as a hospital under the dedicated care of Dr. Main, a British medical missionary. Regrettably, the Qing government reclaimed the land, leading to the demolition of the building.
