If we take the presuppositional stance that our lives, our worldly existence is a continuous struggle; that the act of living is a never-ending battle, then we must take one of three positions. The first is to succumb to the pressures around us; the second is to defend ourselves against those pressures; the third is to actively combat them. Each plays a role. While we may be forced into submission we can use this time to prepare ourselves. If we must defend ourselves, the best defensive stance is out of sight of the enemy at which we can again prepare. Only when we have fully prepared, equipped, trained and gained focus can we actively combat whomever or whatever our enemy may be. It is my belief that one should fight. Even the act of preparing can be seen as a battle leading to a greater fight. Each little battle we win is one small victory towards a larger victory whether that be barriers in our own mind or a corporeal opponent. Not actively surviving is passively dying.
