RE: WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR ATTENTION WORTH?

in #philosophy7 years ago

No simple problem this one. The corporatocracy is everywhere. Let's say I decide to solve some terrible problem, starvation in Africa. I go online with my pitch and get millions of people to give me money and determine that every cent will go to the problem, none to the corporations.

But wait, I must buy food in huge quantities, which means agribusiness, transfer funds through banks, transport materials with trucks that run of fossil fuels. Every step of the way, one corporation or another has its grubby hand out taking a cut out of my cash, which translates to food out of the mouths of starving people.

This is not to say that people shouldn't try to help each other. It is merely pointing out that doing so on a large scale almost guarantees that we keep feeding the beast, making it that much bigger and stronger. And since it is the beast that created that starvation in the first place (No money -- no food!), what have we really accomplished?

Sort:

An excellent point, it isn't a simple problem on any level. The corporate monster will always get fed, however we can control to what degree we allow our attention to feed it. We can Claim responsibility for our part of the problem or solution. What kind of ripple in the fabric in which we exist within would occur by 10,000 people subtracting an hour of screen time a day for a week? We hear that time is money, attention is also money. If we determine where we focus our attention, and act in a way that will create benefit, instead of just blankly staring at triviacrack for 3 hours (been there which is why I use it) there will undoubtedly be improvement, and improvement is accomplishment. Otherwise, not only am I wasting my time but I am also wasting my attention on something that bears with it zero productivity, and in so doing, I discharge my valuable attention onto the beast instead of allowing it to flow elsewhere

At the end of the day, Little changes = big results, little pebbles create big ripples, and little hinges swing big doors. We can each make little changes that cumulatively will create big result!

Thank you for such a wonderful response :)
