Why You Should Seek Discomfort

in #philosophy7 years ago

Not having to worry about your job or money and living a comfortable life in general is seems like a dream to many. But does living a comfortable really make you that much happier?

Comfort is Overrated

Being comfortable all the time isn't very positive to us as human beings. It won't make us happy (on the long term), like most of us think it will, but instead it turns us into lazy and forgetful human beings filled with boredom and discontent. By seeking comfort and thus avoiding discomfortable situations you are subject to the prospect of exactly knowing where your life is heading and that can be extremely dangerous. Because from that point onwards 'comfort' can swiftly turn into monotony and that's a major reason why a lot of people still fail to experience genuine happiness.

No Pain, No Gain

You've probably heard this somewhere before and it doesn't necessarily only apply for your weekly workout session, it also applies in our lives. Because being in uncomfortable situations will force you to act in ways you might've never acted in before and more importandly turn those uncomfortable situations into comfortable ones. In that sense discomfort can be can be considered a catalyst for growth because it forces us to reacht, change and adapt.

Growth only occurs in a state of discomfort.

There's no point in trying to avoid fear or in trying to avoid or remove discomfort, fear and doubt. You should embrase them, study them in order for you to respond to them in a good manner. By applying this into your life you will be able to get a deeper understanding of yourself.

Discomfort is Essential for Success

Believe it or not, discomfort creates opportunity. In your lifetime loads of opportunities will come your way in various ways, shapes or forms. Some will lie outside your boundaries, others within. It's up to you to step out of your comfort zone and seize the opportunities by the forelock. Only then you will be able to find success.

We can never hope to achieve success unless we're willing to embrace change and risk the discomfort of failure.

The challenge is not to avoid unpleasent incidents but rather to embrace them and react to them in a manner that defines you. Are you up to the challenge?

If you want more inspiration as to how to seek discomfort I would highly recommend checking out the Yes Theory YouTube channel. They post refreshing content and are to primary example for seeking and handling situations out of your comfort zone.

So true, its not good to feel comort all the time, we must put ourself in uncomfortable situation to learn to appreciate life.
I think its important with opposites.

You've got it! The only way to book progress is to put yourself in the de kinds of situations and despite difficulties you may encounter you will appreciate life a lot more.

@callmefib3r - excellent post. You are right; it's better to have a struggle in our lives, a muscle doesn't get stronger unless we exercise it. Consequently, our brains also must have activity to keep growing & alert. That's why you see people decline when they stop working. Great points... upvoted, followed, and resteemed!

That are some great analogies you made there. People who are stuck in the monotone area in life struggle a lot to put that into practice. Welcome to the family!
