CRAB MENTALITY or TALANGKA SYSTEM : A Negative Filipino Trait
Crab mentality or Talangka system , What do we mean by that? Why is is it termed that way? Alright , let's try to explain it so everyone can understand . As we all know , crab is a sea creature or a seafood mostly found in seashores , and Talangka is a very small crab . Try to observe the behavior of the crabs/talangka when you put lots of them in a container, you'll see that they are all trying to climb up to be on the top, one crab pulling down the other just for it to be in his position and in the end only few of them are able to escaped and survived.
We, Filipinos are said to have a crab mentality or Talangka trait , i will definitely include myself , because i am a Filipino . We might be ashamed to admit it but oh come on! it's the truth . This mentality is taking place when somebody wants himself to be the greatest one always, to be he highest of all , and that no one is better than his opinions and abilities . Then , if someone is on top of him , the first thought he would have is how to bring that person down , spreading fake news or rumors about the successful person to ruin his reputation . Most likely a person who has this mentality feels envy on the success of others instead of being happy for him. Simple as , If i can't have it? , why should you?!
For me , this trait is one of the reasons why our country belongs to the third world , that even in government all they do most of the time is how to throw stones to each other , how they can file a case against each other and worst is how to take an official out of the picture . Instead of helping each other to make new laws and programs for the benefit of all Filipinos , all you can see on the news are hot topics about how one official will fight against anothe one . Even in presidency , no one among the past and presnt presidents had received just praises and appreciation to what they have done to the country . The tendency of Filipinos are always to negate or be against what the government wants to do , one great example is having a rally , all they do is shout , holding placards , putting themselves to danger by fighting with the police officers . What if we just try to give government a chance? , what if we try to agree ? maybe we'll see a better outcome for the whole Philippines
This mentality also happens in different offices , one employee on top and other would find a way to be a hindrance in his way to success , in schools : teachers among other teachers , students competing not in a healthy way . This trait might be very hard for us to eliminate , because when you look on a funny fact , Philippines is an archipelago and we got lots of seashores , maybe that's why there are lots of crabs too? Isn't it ironic?
Let's try to do some of the possible ways to get rif of crab mentality or maybe at least lessen it.
Believe in yourself , but believe in others potential too
It's good that you have confidence about your own capabilities and strengths but to much is always not okay. You may set yourself as an example to to others and help them be as successful as you are.
Be Appreciative , Complain no More
If we can be all grateful for everything we had today and make the most out of it , and recognize the effort of everyone around us , nothing would follow but only great things sa result.
Be A good example , not a Superior
One tends to brag about his achievements and sees others as his inferior, It's good to be a leader , but you should set a good model and be approachable so others can treat you as their leader , as their friend and not as a royal king
Be a Person full of positivity
If we see all good things about everything we have ,we see and we experience , wewould appreciate whatever comes up wether good or bad , let's try to think of the reasons always why it happened.
Stop The Blame
When something fails, stop questioning what others have done or haven't done , instead , try to focus on how to resolve it by helping one another and putting on the encouragement.
We don't Know everything
We are all not a walking dictionary as if we are knowledgable about everything in this world , it's good to know a lot , but not everything . We can be half empty or half full, learnings took place everyday.
Accept Criticisms
Take critics as people who will motivate you to try harder and strive more so you can imprive yourself and be a positive critic to others too
Be Compassionate
Let's always try to put others' shoes to us , for that, we are able to understand and feel what they're going through . Be considerate always for everyone is going in different circumstances everyday.
Be Happy for Others
If we are always proud about one's success , that means we are happier to see him on that status . Try to put on this attitude always and no negativity will come.
Let Others' Success be your Motivation
Let's always take someone else's achievement as a source of inspiration , let it be our motivation to improve ourselves and better version so we can be all successful
It's not bad to dream high and goal for success to be on top . But let's not forget responsibility , humility , and unity so we can have success not only for ourselves but for the whole nation
