Every once in a while, I go surfing with my friends. But where I am, is quite far from the popular spots. Some spots are very crowded and full of people hoarding the waves. Anyway, here are some awesome surf spots in the Philippines.

Borongan City, Eastern Samar

Located in the north east part of Samar Island. It is a beginner friendly because it has beach breaks. I first learned how to surf here. The people are awesome and friendly and not too many surfers around. Baybay Boulevard in Brgy Bato & Locso-on is a great spot. You can choose between, white sand, brown sand and black sand spots!

Calicoan Island, Guiuan Eastern Samar

Located in the lower end of Samar Island. It is a coastal baranggay with white sand beaches that are ideal for surfing. The spot is called ABCD which is a reef break. It is ideal for all surfers including Beginners. Usual waves range from 1m-1.4m up to 2.5m of hight. There used to be a surf camp there but was destroyed by Super Typhoon Haiyan

Lanuza, Surigao del Sur

With it’s beach break, it is quite popular to the beginners. It’s best to visit Lanuza would be on November to March where huge waves are in constant. Usual 1.5m to 2.5m waves can be caught. With it's chill location, a lot of surfers usually go there to relax and have fun! There are also annual competition for surfing and long boarding.

Ayoke Island, Surigao del Sur

Located in an island more than a kilometer away from Cantilan, Surigao del Sur. This island is also popular spot but less surfers visit here because of its location. Surfing season for Ayoke island is usually on the monsoon season or Amihan like most of the spots.

Siargao Islands

A popular spot for local surfers and international surfers. Every year, there is a huge surfing competition held at the cloud9 where local & international surfers compete. The lineup is usually packed with surfers so there are lesser chance to get yourself a wave. Anyway, there are a few spots with less crowd.
  • Jockeying Horse for the beginners
  • Quicksilver for the intermediate class
