The plague of reaction videos
There is a trend that's a few years old now and seems to be taking over the internet more and more: reaction videos.
I'd consider this one of the modern plagues we are facing that needs to be eradicated as quickly as possible. Here's why:
Vicarious living will never satisfy you. Experiencing someone else's reactions will never be a substitute for your own.
The ability to experience the feelings of other people by watching them is an amazing tool we humans possess. It allows us to have empathy and cooperate better. But it also has some side effects. One of them is the tendency to take the easy route and experience life through someone else. This is really prevalent in modernity because we have access to a lot of video content that feeds this need.
I admit I too am guilty of indulging in streaming videos that do absolutely nothing for my development and that I'm pretty sure have a negative impact on me. But there's no other option than to try and abstain. Or atrophy.
Stop watching and making reaction videos. At the very least react to content yourself. Even better, create quality work for others to react to!
