The way people see it
Last evening I was having a conversation with one of the agents who helps me with bookings for my Home stay rentals. I work with couple of agents on commission basis and have no fixed tie ups with anyone. Working on B2B basis is good for me and it leaves all the final decision making to me, whether I want to rent my place to a particular customer or not. I have given them some rates to sell on, but still sometimes they come back to me asking if I could consider giving it for lower rates at certain times. At times I consider but not all the time.
This particular agent he always comes with customers at a lower price, so I told him yesterday that I am not going to do business in this manner. He needs to get my agreed prices or he cannot sell my property on rentals. He is my hubby's ex-collègue and knows us for quiet some years. He is telling me why do I need so much money and what will I do with it. I was a little pissed off with this statement. First of all he does not know my financial liabilities and responsibilities, and more or less, who is he to judge that.
Also if I have more money that does not mean I will start renting out my property at lower prices to everyone. If such was the thing, then every business should be doing that. I did not understand his philosophy, I wanted to give a little piece of mind in that moment, but at the same time I have to maintain relationship with him to keep my business going. As it is lately I have been having mood swings because of my back issue and I get nasty at times.
It's not the question of more or less money, it is about the worth of what you are doing. If I have made a huge investment in my business, I also need to recover that. So if one sees that I am making money then they also need to see how much I have invested and how much I am spending on regular maintenance and upgrades.
This is how people judge each other from what they can see on the outside.

Así es! nunca quieren ver más allá de lo que significa la inversión del propietrario. Nada puede ser regalado en los negocios porque nadie puede poner el precio a algo que no le pertenece.
Saludos y un gran abrazo..!

That's true, but these people keep pressurizing you so much with the way they want things to happen, and then sometimes if you do not agree with them they stop giving you business. It's a little mad affair with them

@nainaztengra, this post really resonated with me! It's a situation so many small business owners face – balancing relationships with the need to maintain profitability and defend your business decisions. I completely understand your frustration with the agent questioning your pricing and personal finances. You've clearly put thought and investment into your home stay rentals, and setting your rates is entirely your prerogative.
It's a tricky line to walk, preserving business relationships while asserting your worth. Your point about the visible success versus the unseen investment is so true! Thanks for sharing this very relatable slice of your business life. I'm curious, how do you usually navigate those difficult conversations? What strategies have worked best for you in the past?
