But Shavarsh made his main act on September 16, 1976 in Yerevan, when a sportsman took a morning run and saw a trolley that fell into the Yerevan Lake. Karapetyan began to save people from the water. At a depth of 10 meters at zero visibility and water temperature - 13 degrees Celsius, Shavarsh broke his legs of the rear window of the trolleybus and pulled 46 passengers out of 92. The rescue lasted about 20 minutes. The last rescued, dragged out by the sportsman, were already dead. 20 people managed to return to life.
