State rooms of the Palace - Part 2

in #palace4 days ago

I shared some parts of the Topkapi palace 2 days ago, so today I will like to continue with some more of it. The palace is truly magnificent. The Ottoman empire ruled this region for almost 600 years and from that Topkapi Palace witnessed 400 years with around 30 kings ruling from the palace in this period. During that time there were different sections for men and women. The women sections were called Harems and female members lived in the harem. All over the walls of the palace we can see Islamic calligraphic manuscripts, which looks like designs but are basically inscriptions from their holy texts.

Today what I want to share is one of their main state rooms, which must be used for grand gatherings and meetings. We can also say the modern day ball room. Again, here you will see fine art on the walls, exquisite chandeliers, beautiful Persian carpets and some grand looking furniture.

Everything is from that time. I am not sure of the curtains though, because they looked quite new, curtains that old would not have this much shine in the material.

The wooden doors were grand, they were almost 10 feet tall.

Another marvel piece of furniture, the chest draws.

I wish I had a mirror like this at my home, but then I would need this kind of a place to keep it...haha. Looking at all of this I feel we have deteriorated so much in the quality of things that we use. And the other way to look at it is that these people destroyed natural resources like there is no tomorrow.

This is the library room

The courtyard with the water fountain in the middle. It does operate but only at certain hours.

Amazing post, @nainaztengra! Thank you for taking us inside the Topkapi Palace. The sheer opulence is breathtaking. Those chandeliers and the Islamic calligraphy are truly stunning! It's fascinating to imagine the grand gatherings that once took place in that state room – a real glimpse into Ottoman history. Your point about the quality of craftsmanship versus the resource depletion is thought-provoking. I'm especially intrigued by the library; I wonder what treasures it holds. I love your closing sentiment too.

Yes, it's like witnessing centuries old history minus the people. Must have been such grand scenes in those times
