Narcissistic literally means excessive interest in or admiration of oneself and one's physical appearance.
It’s a nice feeling to be admired. It naturally makes us feel good and feel important. And, yes, we sometimes boast and brag on ourselves as well but being so obsessed with yourself is not to good it also had bad effect on daily behaviour.Associated with narcism is a disorder called Narcissistic Personality Disorder.This disorder (NPD) is closely associated with egocentric, a personality characteristic in which people see themselves and their interests and opinions as the only ones that really matter.The hallmarks of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) are grandiosity, a lack of empathy for other people, and a need for admiration.alt

Signs of Narcissism


Here is a list of common behaviour of narcissists:

  • Exaggerated need for attention and validation
  • Lack of empathy-donot have feelings or care about others.
  • Superiority and entitlement-consider themselves the most superior.
  • Perfectionism
  • Believes he or she is special and can only be understood by other special people or institutions.
  • Is preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence or ideal romance.
It appears to occur more often in males than females and affects young people more than older people.alt

Causes

Causes of narcissistic personality disorder are not yet well-understood. Genetic and biological factors as well as environment and early life experiences are all thought to play a role in the development of this condition.alt

Treatment

Psychotherapy is the key approach in the treatment of narcissistic personality disorder. Treatment for disorder can be challenging because people with this condition present with a great deal of grandiosity and defensiveness, which makes it difficult for them to acknowledge problems and vulnerabilities. Individual and group psychotherapy may be useful in helping people with narcissistic personality disorder relate to others in a healthier and more compassionate way. Mentalization-based therapy, transference-focused psychotherapy, and schema-focused psychotherapy have all been suggested as effective ways of treating narcissistic personality disorder.

Narcissism is a serious problem. I really can't stand it when people talk only and solely about themselves and don't care to listen to the other person and act as if they are a big celebrity. Highly agree with your content.
