I am super excited about the responses I received from my article "Can A Minnow Organize a Successful Steemit Meetup?"

And if you are wondering, it seems like a minnow can organize a successful Steemit Meetup (or at least start the process). Thanks for everyone who has shown interest in this event!

So what about the exact location and the time?

As mentioned in the previous post, we will be gathering in Springfield, MO (on Saturday, April 21, 2018). The exact location and meeting time have not been set (yet).

Please answer the following questions so that I hear what you are wanting/needing from our meetup. Based on your answers we will work on setting up a specific time and place.

  • What is your primary reason for joining our meetup?
  • What is the secondary reason for joining our meetup?
  • Do you prefer a relaxed environment, a structured meeting, or a combination of the two? Why?
  • Is there a time of the day that you would prefer to start the meetup?
  • Ideally, how many hours would we spend together?

Next Steps - Help Promote The Event!

The following are some ways that you can help promote this event:

  • Resteem this post
  • Tag people who you think might be interested in meeting up in the comments section. That way I can reach out to them individually.
  • Write about the meetup. Be sure to use the hashtag #ozarksmeetup.

Less than 3 Months Away

I am really excited about meeting you all. I will keep gathering information and regularly reporting to you all so that we can move forward with the decision making process. I might also reach to some of you personally to get your thoughts and advice.

The 2nd Ever Ozarks Meetup will be here soon! Keep pushing forward and keep Steeming!

My primary reason for joining the meetup is to meet, in person, some of the people that I’ve been getting to know here, online. Steem is cool to collect and learn about online, but the real longterm goal is to better my life and the lives of my husband and kids. Online, it’s novel, in real life it’s more powerful. I feel that way about the people I’m making connections with here on Steemit. It’s cool to share bits of our lives with eachother, learn a little from and about each other, but real life connections with people can be so much more powerful. I believe that once the people on the other side of the screen become flesh and blood people, even after they return to their side of the screen, their experiences and feelings seem more real somehow. Well, that’s been my experience.

I think an evironment that feels pretty informal and relaxed, but has structure in the way of scheduled speakers and that sort of thing, would be excellent. With structure, we could make the most out of the time we have. We could all leave with some new information and education. And there’s a lot to be said for a room full of people being excited about the samething at the same time. If it’s all structure, there’s no time to have organic conversation and make human connection.

I don’t really have an opinion about a start or stop time. Obviously, the longer it runs the more interaction time there will be. But for those traveling farther may need to pay for lodging and food. And food or refreshments during a longer event would need some consideration.

That’s just my position. I’m pretty flexable, so really, what ever works best for everyone else works for me.

Thank you so much for taking the lead on organizing a meet up!

@powellx5, thanks for providing feedback. I appreciate your desire to make personal connections that build on the relationships that we have already built on Steemit.

It sounds like a lot of people are interested in a relaxed environment with opportunities to connect. My hope and goal is to meet the needs of our community so let's plan on moving in that direciton.

Here are a few in our area that I know of, I’ll keep looking.
@awesomehomestead
@mountainjewel
@beatitudes8
@freedompoint
@freedomtowrite
@slhomestead

Thanks for the list. I will be sure to connect with everyone you mentioned.

We are all in the not too far away area as well.
The essential issue we may have is that Friday at Sundown to Saturday at sundown is the Sabbath and most of the time avoid travel, buying and selling or causing others to do the same. So maybe in the future we can organize a Sunday afternoon meetup.. like 1-6... just food for thought 🎂

Thanks for the heads-up. I appreciate you letting me know about this. I will try my best to take this into consider for future events that I organize.

Awesome. Thank you

I have the date saved in my calendar, so I will not book over it! So excited to see this starting to come to fruition!

The main reason I want to attend a Steemit meetup is to meet other Steemians and interact with them about our own little culture and world here. I’ve attended two meetups so far, and they were both so nice to be able to speak to folks in our Steemit jargon and everyone speaks relatively the same language on that level, and that’s awesome.

Secondarily, I’d like to share my own personal story of relative and not huge, but a growing sustainable success since I was first introduced to the platform in October 2016, and to be able to answer any questions that anyone might have in that regard in any capacity.

Also, obviously I’m promoting my music everywhere I go. So, I will either talk about it, bring CDs, or if playing music is an option, I’m all about that, too. There are quite a few musicians in the area on Steemit, so I’m not sure if anyone else had any musical goals per se for this meetup, so if we end up meeting and talking and hanging out over coffee, I am totally okay with that, too.

The meetups I have attended were less structured...lots of talking. It always feels like we have “catching up” to do with old friends we’ve never met before, so having the opportunity to do that, even allowed “mixer” time in a structured meetup would be helpful.

The more you structure it, obviously the more work on your end that goes into organizing and making sure everyone is on task with their task...but if you want to structure it up, I’m on board with that, too. If you need help with anything in that regard, make sure to hit me up in Comments somewhere.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it, thank you @sumatranate for stepping up and putting in this effort to make this happen again in the Ozarks!

@jessamynorchard, thanks for saving the date. We are glad that you will be able to join us!

It will be great to communicate with others that understand our Steemit jargon and concerns. Let's keep talking about how to communicate success stories and passing along best practices. I know these types of conversations will take place naturally. There might also be information that should be shared with the entire group.

I appreciate the following line:

It always feels like we have “catching up” to do with old friends we’ve never met before

You are very welcome. I am super excited to meet everyone.

Sounds like a great date for me! The main reason I want to go is because I would love to meet other Steemians in person, and another reason is to learn more about Steemit. A relaxed environment would be awesome! I'm always up for relaxing, but either works. ;) As for time of day, as long as it's not extremely early (we're about an hour and a half away) anytime is great for me! And we also have friends that live in Springfield so we could stay if it ran late. Super stoked to see this happen!

Thanks @rockchickjen. Seems like everyone is interested in a relaxed setting (myself included). I was thinking about starting mid-morning (maybe 10 or 1030AM) and hanging out for several hours. Of course, anyone can leave at any time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

This date will actually probably work out pretty perfect! I'd like to meet up just to be able to see everyone face to face and share ideas! I'm all for a relaxing environment, but fine with whatever. :)
Pretty easy going on the time, and fine with however long it lasts! Looking forward to meeting you all!

@ashleyhogan, thanks for the reply. It seems like your goals and preferences are lining up with everyone else. Glad that the date works for you. Look forward to meeting you all soon!

Yay! We'll get to meet! :-)

Yay! I'm excited!

hey this is great! i was just wondering the other day about folks in missouri getting together! i wrote this from a land-based perspective and then i see your post a few days later ;) https://steemit.com/ecotrain/@mountainjewel/bioregionalism-or-ozarks-or-a-vision-for-the-present

We are a little south of springfield and are interested in coming! I think I'd prefer something informal, but still structured enough that we know it's a steemit convergence :) I'd still like a lot of time to mingle with whomever I feel drawn to tho :) ! Happy to see you put this out there. Look forward to piecing through your blog! ~wren from @mountainjewel

also, i'll take a moment to answer your ?s:

What is your primary reason for joining our meetup?

meeting other people who live in my area - See the above bioregionalism post ^^ to me it's fantastic to meet people from all over the world, but i have a special focus in my life on making within-driving-distance relations. there are always things we can share and learn from one another and it's great to see each other face to face.
What is the secondary reason for joining our meetup?
i'm curious to attend a steemit gathering and see what it could be like!
Do you prefer a relaxed environment, a structured meeting, or a combination of the two? Why?
relaxed likely, as mentioned above. i like organically chatting and feel more comfortable that way, as opposed to a kind of "team building exercise" kind of type - perhaps i did that too much studying outdoor recreation and resource management in college! LOL
Is there a time of the day that you would prefer to start the meetup?

midday to evening
Ideally, how many hours would we spend together?

a couple scheduled and see how the event goes/how the weather is/ and we can continue hanging out if it feels good :)

thanks!

Hey Wren! Thanks for your interest in the meetup and for answering the questions. Seems like everyone is excited about some relaxed hang out time. That sounds perfect for me too!

Thanks for stopping by. Look forward to connecting later.

Definitely interested! I’ll reply with more detail when I have time :)

Great! We look forward to hearing from you.

I have been working on getting a Toronto meetup here in Canada. Will have one by this summer for sure.

@bitdollar, great work on getting a meetup organized. Look forward to hearing about it!
