Overtoun bridge
Overtoun Bridge is a historic bridge located near Dumbarton in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Built in 1895, it spans the Overtoun Burn, a stream running through the grounds of Overtoun House. Architect H. E. Milner designed the bridge in a classical Scottish baronial style using sandstone.
The bridge is famous not only for its architectural beauty but also for a mysterious phenomenon: since the 1950s, hundreds of dogs have reportedly jumped off the bridge, often to their deaths, from the same spot on clear, dry days. This strange behavior has led to the bridge being nicknamed the "Dog Suicide Bridge."
Various theories have tried to explain this phenomenon, including the scent of animals such as mink, sensory overload, or even supernatural influences. Some locals believe the bridge is haunted due to its proximity to the Overtoun House, which has its own eerie reputation.
Despite scientific investigations, no single definitive explanation has been found, making the Overtoun Bridge both a site of intrigue and tragedy.
