Adventures in Gavellon
Book 1: The Beginning
By Lil Dragon
The Prologue
Gavellon is an ancient realm that lies beyond Earth. In this realm, there are all sorts of magical creatures and things that were thought to have only existed in myths and fairytales. The realm is divided into six regions, some of which are good and others that are evil. The regions of light are the Kingdom of Perfio, Snowpeak Village, and Ravenmist Valley while the regions caught in the grasp of darkness are the Foroga Forest, Greensville, and the Shadowy Vale. The people of these regions are ruled over and protected by a noble royal family. The story of how the royal family came to hold power over the regions of light is similar to any romantic story of forbidden love.
Prince Luke of the Kingdom of Perfio was a handsome young man with chocolate brown hair and striking green eyes. His skin had a slight tan from all the times he had gone hunting in the wild Foroga Forest with his father. At the time, the king was frustrated with him because the prince wanted to marry for love instead of following his father’s order to marry for power and wealth. The young prince’s reason for disobeying his father’s orders was that his heart had been captured by a fair maiden from Ravenmist Valley named Annabelle. Annabelle had raven black hair with silver tips and her eyes were an icy blue while her skin was a warm shade of peach. She was the daughter of a stable keeper named Auden, so she didn’t have a noble title or a position of power. Yet her rare beauty had charmed the prince into marrying her.
After Luke and Annabelle were joined in marriage, Luke became the supreme ruler over the Kingdom of Perfio because his father passed away mysteriously after the wedding. Despite there being no proof that the old king had been murdered, the people of Perfio suspected the death to have been caused by Luke due to his apparent lack of grief towards his father’s passing. Shortly after Luke and Annabelle were crowned king and queen of Perfio, Annabelle became pregnant with their first son whom they named Noctis. Two years later, Annabelle bore a second son whom she named Ozias.
The two princes were complete opposites when it came to personal demeanors. Noctis, being the oldest of the two, had a tendency to be more serious. However, at the same time he could be bossy and demanding. Ozias was different from his older brother. He was slightly immature and shy, but kind. Unlike his high-strung sibling, he was the one who was least likely to be caught bossing the servants around. Noctis grew up with feelings of resentment towards his mother and his younger brother because Annabelle favored Ozias over him.
One day, sixteen year-old Noctis and fourteen year-old Ozias were taking a ride on the royal Pegasi. The princes were practicing their stunts so that they could surprise their mother for her birthday that evening. Noctis knew deep down that no matter what he did his mother would always praise Ozias, so he hatched a plan to sabotage his brother’s performance. While Ozias went to talk to one of the servants, Noctis went to Ozias’s Pegasus and loosened one of the saddle straps on his brother’s saddle. Little did he know that he had just made a huge mistake.
The time came for Noctis to perform for his mother. He gave a flawless performance and, to his complete surprise, his mother stood up and praised him for the wonderful show. At that moment, Noctis realized that he had made a mistake by sabotaging his brother’s Pegasus. Quickly, Noctis tried to rush back to where his brother had left his Pegasus only to find that his brother was already preparing to take off. Noctis tried frantically to get his brother’s attention, but it was too late. Ozias took off on his Pegasus, performing a flawless loop before spiraling upward towards the moon. So far, Ozias didn’t seem to notice the loose strap on his saddle.
Just as Noctis thought his brother wouldn’t be affected by the loose strap he heard a piercing scream. He turned just in time to see his younger brother slip off of his Pegasus and plummet to the ground, hitting the stone courtyard with a sickening splat. Noctis ran quickly to where his brother had landed, his mother and father following close behind him. When they approached the younger prince’s body, they saw a pool of blood around him. Ozias was dead and Noctis knew that he was to blame. Annabelle collapsed on the ground, weeping for her youngest son while Luke tried to comfort her. All Noctis could do was stare at the damage he had caused.
Three years after the tragic event, Annabelle had a daughter who she named Jewel. Noctis became extremely protective over his new sister, making sure that nothing ever happened to her. He did everything within his power to ensure that no harm came to her or his parents. The guilt of his brother’s death seemed to have transformed his mannerism, which surprised his parents greatly.
While the royal family of Perfio lived in peace within Gavellon, another family is living an ordinary life in San Francisco, California. In that family, there is a boy named Nolan. Nolan doesn’t know it yet, but he is about to receive the biggest shock of his life.
Chapter 1
Nolan Rogers seems like an average fifteen year old boy. He fawns over cute girls and keeps up with his schoolwork. Even his appearance looks normal. He has messy dark brown hair with golden highlights while his eyes are a warm hazel. He resembles his mother, Luna Pierce-Rogers. His father, Kendall Rogers, shares no resemblance to his only child. Kendall’s hair is as black as charcoal while his eyes are a deep chocolate hue. Despite their difference in appearance, the two have a strong bond. So yes, Noah’s life looks to be completely ordinary. The only thing is, he isn’t an average teenager. Noah’s family consists of the most powerful people in the realms. His mother’s family is descended from a long line of people known as the Guardians of Gavellon.
The Guardians live in the realm that we know as Earth. They protect all of the realms through magic that is beyond our understanding at this point in time. On rare occasions the Guardians may pass into the different realms with magic that was bestowed upon an everyday possession they own like a piece of jewelry or a lucky charm that they always keep with them. In Luna’s case, she was given a necklace with a moon charm with a star in the middle. The moon is made of moonstone while the star is made of selenite. Her brother Cayde had received a ring that had an amber flame emblazoned into it.
