Open Source Ecology Project

Open Source Ecology is a project which is trying to open source the design of what it calls the Global Village Construction Set. <- You can watch founder Marcin Jakubowski do a Ted Talk on that link, but simply put, the Global Village Construction Set is working on open sourcing about 50 farm/ construction machines in various stages of design and production.

I have been watching the team for a few years now but yesterday I decided to offer my services to document and make videos for them. Mr. Jakubowski responded immediately and asked that I submit an OSE Development Application.

They wanted a video cover letter as well, so I am posting that here for your amusement before I take it down.

If I want to get more involved, it appears some proficiency in CAD would be a good idea. I'm not sure if my Blender skills are enough, as I am not an engineer. It seems that I can likely add value in media production, but I guess we shall see.

We have a developer meeting scheduled tomorrow evening, so I expect to have a lot more to report about what I will be able to help them with after that. I really like that the team is so committed to embedding the use of open source as much as possible into their operations. For example; the conference tomorrow evening is using Jitsi. They are however, using Google still, so maybe at some point, they will move over to something like NextCloud
