One photo every day: Moon (244/365)
Well hello again! :)
Years ago, when I first tried shooting the moon it was an embarrassing failure, so I decided not to shoot it for a while.
This is my second try.
Cropped it up to create a close-up.
Camera body: Canon EOS 550D
Lens: EF 75-300mm ƒ/4-5.6
Focal length: 300mm
Aperture: ƒ/8
Exposure: 1/100 s
ISO: Dual-ISO 100+200
For shooting this photo I used my other kit-lens, the Canon 75-300mm lens that is absolutely trash. There are a couple of shots I have ever managed to take that were reasonably sharp, but this lens is just awful. There is so much looseness it makes a clanky rattle when shaken and that affects focusing. Once you get a focus, you better not get any wind or other disturbance or otherwise the focus is forever lost. But usually it just doesn't even focus right.
(I'll invest in a proper long lens one of these days that's for sure. Leo can practice with this one.)
The uncropped original.
This is 300 mm on a cropped sensor camera, so on a full-frame, the moon would look 1.6 times smaller. On mine it is equivalent of 480mm on a full-frame sensor. Now I wonder how nice the moon would look I shot it on a 600mm or 1200mm lens.
It wasn't full moon tonight, but as I was supposed to go and check out the land property in Hollola once again, and found out I couldn't get to it because the road was so small and in so bad driving condition, and I was fast losing light, I decided to go to the grocery instead. But first I had to shoot the moon in the clear sky above.
There's one thing I remembered right now that I should've been vary of: 1/100s on a 300mm lens is probably too slow, even on a tripod if there is any wind. Next time I should try 1/500s. F8 is probably the sharpest aperture the lens can do, so I may need to tweak the ISO.
Anyway, I'll be watching the first episode of the last season of The Bridge now. I'm likely a bit addicted to the series, as I've already watched all the previous episodes. Rooting for Saga, I hope she gets out of prison.

@gamer00,
That's a wonderful photography! Few days back I saw one of the best Moon of my life, but had no chance to take a photography! Coz it needs a good lens! My phone camera can't take it well! So you made a great shot friend!
Cheers~
It looks very good
Lol
a million times better than my first attempt a few days ago
XD
This cropped in nicely! I have quit trying to shoot the moon. Every time it disappoints. Like you, someday I will get some good glass.
Waudi, hieno kuva! Kyl kannatti koittaa uudestaan :)
Yeah it looks a bit out of focus but at least it looks like a moon... I quickly took a picture with my phone and it barely even looked like a moon.
This is a good picture of the moon you had. Its almost thesame as using a telescope to view the moon. At least, I have aseen it once.
@gamer00 - Sir can I do a little suggestion... Can you please capture a full moon photography? This photography is outstanding & like to see the full moon too Sir...
+W+
I'll try to do that if we get both a full moon and a clear sky at the same time. :)
This is a very good picture of the moon. I can't wait to see what you get with a better camera.
Friend this picture is great, I say I do not know anything about the explanations that you give when you talk about the lenses that you use, but I must admit that in one way or another I am learning something that I did not know.
Thank you for the detail of your explanation, well what you say about the plot of land. That makes me happy, here in Venezuela we have a say.
Here in Venezuela at the time of writing is 11:55 pm, after seeing your picture, I went to the window and the moon is set so I took this picture with my cell phone, haha I'm not comparing it just wanted to show .. regards
