Wow, this is really interesting. I agree that it wasn't a very good idea to place a winey baby next to a lion. But I also can't imagine that the trainers would bring a "hungry" predator on a television show. Lions also don't eat humans, they will only attack when threatened or try to play with a squirming little creature, which is probably what this lioness was trying to do since she let go of the child so easily. If the lion was really trying to eat the baby she would have grabbed and not let go of the child. This is probably why the trainer stayed so calm, because she knew that the lion will not actually harm the child, unless panic is caused or if the lion got as far as "playing" with the child.
