Male portrait painting

in #oldart2 years ago

This is portrait number 5 in the new style. I decided to do a male portrait. Normally I find painting male faces extremely hard because generally male faces are hard and rough. When i paint a female face I can blend in the colors and make the skin looks smooth and in turn the portrait looks good.
But if i paint male faces, i have to keep a rough and edgy texture on the skin and still make it look smooth. Mostly you can get that by simply using a hard edged brush. But the problem is defining exact shapes. Since the shapes will be kinda hard edged so messing up the shapes a little bit would mess up the whole lighting. And i realized that i am not good at this.

I took a lots of time with the face, but messed up big time with the neck. When i finished the portrait, i was shocked to see the neck. He looked like he had some short of neck disease.
So i had change the entire thing. At first i tried to fix the light shading but couldn't get it right anymore so instead came up with something new.

I like it. But I don't know if anyone else would like it.
