now playing week 7
I'm choosing 3 songs this week that aren't just great tunes musically but have some pretty important thought-provoking messages too. I really like that the Steem community is a very compassionate, encouraging and positive place. All these songs speak of people suffering unthinkable pain, are quite sad, but also important and besides all this heavy stuff, quite good tunes!
Smalltown Boy - Bronski Beat - This song speaks about the tough life of a young gay boy who is hated for his sexuality. Hopefully, we've evolved a bit from when Jimmy Somerville released this in 1984:
Song #2 this week is True Trans Soul Rebel (Performed by Miley Cyrus & Laura Jane Grace). Laura Jane Grace from Against Me! sings this anthem for transgender people. It speaks of their struggles, bigotry, and discrimination. Kudos to Miley Cyrus for her support of the trans community.
My third pick this week is "November Spawned a Monster" from Morrissey. It speaks about a disabled woman who is sick of the sympathy she receives because of her condition. Some organizations criticized Morrissey for mocking the disabled. Not sure I agree with that criticism, however, it is quite a thought-provoking song.
Thanks for entering this week's #nowplaying!
