Chapter 9: I Want No One Else, Only You
Xiao Qingcheng’s family lived in a high-end residential community, with lush greenery and exquisitely built villas.
As they reached the door of her house, Ning Chen slowed his steps.
“Are we really going in?”
Ning Chen frowned slightly. Although Xiao Longshan’s attitude toward him wasn’t exactly bad, he could still feel that her father didn’t really want his daughter to marry him.
“Of course. We’re husband and wife.”
Xiao Qingcheng took Ning Chen’s hand willingly and said softly, “Don’t worry. My parents treat me well. Give them some time, and they’ll definitely accept you.”
Feeling the sincerity in her words, Ning Chen nodded.
In the villa’s living room.
Xiao Longshan and Wang Guifang were sitting on the sofa, waiting for Xiao Qingcheng to return.
Hearing footsteps, both turned their heads.
The moment they saw Ning Chen, Xiao Longshan’s eyes flickered slightly.
Wang Guifang’s reaction was much stronger—her smile vanished instantly, and her brows knitted tightly.
A fool? She really dared to bring him home!
Xiao Qingcheng walked in gracefully, holding Ning Chen’s arm, and introduced, “Dad, Mom, I brought Ning Chen home.”
“Ning Chen, these are my parents.”
Ning Chen greeted politely, “Hello, Uncle, Auntie. I’m Ning Chen.”
Xiao Longshan gave a lukewarm nod as a response.
Wang Guifang cast him a sidelong glance, her eyes full of open disdain. “Don’t call me Auntie. Who’s your Auntie?”
She crossed her arms and looked him up and down.
The more she looked, the more she disliked him. Her beautiful daughter, well-known as a stunning beauty in Jiangcheng, was marrying a man infamous for being a fool—on top of that, a divorcee!
What bad luck!
“Mom, what are you doing!”
Xiao Qingcheng glanced at Ning Chen, and when she saw he wasn’t visibly upset, she sighed in relief before turning back to her mother. “Ning Chen is my husband. If he calls you Mom, there’s nothing wrong with that!”
Usually mild and obedient at home, Xiao Qingcheng’s sudden firmness surprised both parents.
“Well, Xiao Qingcheng!”
Wang Guifang trembled with anger. “Now you dare talk back to me? Your wings have grown hard!”
She marched over, grabbed her daughter by the arm, and pulled her to her side.
“My marriage should be my own decision!”
Xiao Qingcheng’s gaze burned as she looked at her mother. “Whether you like him or not is irrelevant. I’ve decided—Ning Chen is my husband, and no one can change that!”
“Childish!”
Wang Guifang glared at her, furious. “I just don’t understand—this guy has no power or influence, so what on earth do you see in him?”
Ning Chen suddenly smiled. “If a man’s worth as your son-in-law is decided by power and influence, then in all of Jiangcheng, no one is more qualified to marry Qingcheng than me.”
“Surnamed Ning, why don’t you take a piss and look at yourself!”
Wang Guifang’s face was full of contempt. “You’ve got no power at all. Marrying you would only lower my daughter’s status and disgrace the Xiao family!”
Ning Chen chuckled silently. As the youngest general in Huaxia’s history, commander of the Ning King Army, and a grandmaster in his early twenties, who in the world could truly match his influence?
“Mom, that’s enough!”
Xiao Qingcheng took a deep breath and said slowly, “If you don’t welcome Ning Chen, I’ll take him and leave.”
At this, Wang Guifang grew even more furious, hands on her hips, ready to speak.
Xiao Longshan, worried his daughter might actually move out, quickly stepped in to mediate.
“Say no more. Qingcheng just came home—why bring this up now?”
Wang Guifang shot him a glare. “Your daughter turned out this way because you spoiled her!”
With that, she stormed upstairs.
Xiao Longshan sighed and looked at his daughter. “Qingcheng, think about it carefully. Your parents and the family only want what’s best for you.”
“Ning Chen may be good, but… he’s not a suitable match.”
Then he, too, went upstairs.
Once they were gone, the oppressive air seemed to lift.
Xiao Qingcheng looked at Ning Chen and said softly, “My mom isn’t deliberately targeting you. That’s just her temper—don’t take it to heart.”
Ning Chen gave her a faint, knowing smile. “When you married me, you must have known it would come to this. Do you regret it?”
Regret?
Xiao Qingcheng smiled gently, her stunning face blooming like a snow lotus.
She shook her head.
From the first moment she saw him, she had already decided.
“I don’t regret it.” Her voice was firm.
That night, in the bedroom.
After a simple wash, Ning Chen voluntarily made a bed on the floor.
Xiao Qingcheng, in a white nightgown, sat on the bed. Even without makeup, she was breathtakingly beautiful.
It was her first time sharing a room with a man, and she still felt uneasy.
She only reacted once Ning Chen finished making the floor bed.
“You… you’re not coming up?”
On the bed, Xiao Qingcheng’s cheeks flushed as she spoke softly.
“I think I won’t.”
Ning Chen thought for a moment, then said earnestly, “What your mother said isn’t entirely wrong. Being with me, you might have to endure a lot of hardship.”
“You have better choices.”
His special status meant he could never devote himself fully to a relationship—or a family. Once his damaged heart meridian healed, he would leave.
It wouldn’t be fair to her. Better to leave sooner than make her wait.
“Okay.”
Xiao Qingcheng’s reply was only a single, simple word.
Click!
Ning Chen turned off the light and lay on the floor. Cold moonlight fell on the wall.
Suddenly, a warm, soft body slipped into his arms.
“I want no one else, only you.”
Her whisper drifted into the darkness.
Jiangcheng Grand Hotel.
Celebrities gathered; luxury cars filled the lot.
A red Porsche pulled up, and Ning Chen and Xiao Qingcheng got out.
In a purple evening gown, Xiao Qingcheng’s graceful curves were accentuated perfectly. Her long hair fluttered like that of a fairy descending to earth.
Although Ning Chen was dressed simply, years in the army had given him an imposing aura.
The striking pair immediately drew many eyes.
Arm in arm, they reached the entrance.
“Please show your invitation,” a staff member said politely.
Xiao Qingcheng handed over her invitation.
“I’m sorry, miss, but each person needs their own invitation,” the staffer reminded quietly.
She froze for a moment, suddenly realizing she’d forgotten to prepare one for Ning Chen.
Right now, she only had one, and the Xiao family had already gone inside.
“Ning Chen, wait here for a bit. I’ll find Grandpa and get another.”
Ning Chen nodded calmly. “Alright.”
She showed her invitation to the staff and quickly entered the hotel.
Inside, she searched the crowd until she found the Xiao family.
“Grandpa, can you give me another invitation? Ning Chen can’t get in.”
Xiao Zhenbang frowned. “Your second uncle has them all. Ask him.”
She turned to Xiao Longhai, but he acted as if he hadn’t heard.
“Second Uncle, the invitation,” she pressed.
“Sorry, they’re all used up.”
Xiao Longhai feigned helplessness. “It’s not that I don’t want to give you one—our family only had so many. There’s none left for him. Why don’t you think of another way?”
Xiao Qingcheng’s face darkened. He was clearly doing this on purpose.
“Second Uncle, don’t go too far.”
Her voice was icy.
“How am I going too far? Without an invitation, I can’t just conjure one up.”
He spread his hands and sneered. “If he wants to come in, let him find his own way.”
Outside the hotel, while Ning Chen waited.
A flashy black Ferrari sped in, followed by several Mercedes.
Skrrrt!
The Ferrari spun into a stop.
Two people got out, leaning close together.
Ning Chen’s brows knitted slightly.
It was Zhang Hao and Liu Qingsnow.
Behind them, over a dozen bodyguards followed.
Zhang Hao’s arm was in a sling, but his arrogance was undiminished.
From afar, Zhang Hao spotted Ning Chen at the entrance, and his eyes instantly turned venomous.
Enemies meet on a narrow road.
Today, with over a dozen bodyguards in tow, crushing Ning Chen would be effortless.
He could finally avenge his injury.
Zhang Hao narrowed his eyes and motioned for a bodyguard to come over.
“Young Master Zhang!” the man greeted respectfully.
Pointing at Ning Chen, Zhang Hao ordered coldly, “When I give the word, kill that guy.”
“I’ll make him understand the price of offending me.”
