the danger of smoking for health
The Thai government issued a ban on smoking regulations on 24 beaches spread across 15 provinces since Thursday (1/2/2018). There are many famous beaches among tourists such as Phuket, Koh Samui, and Krabi which are included in the no smoking beach list.
"Since February 1st, smoking and throwing cigarette butts are forbidden in coastal areas," said Director of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources of Thailand, Bannarak Sermthong. "Anyone who wants to smoke should smoke in special areas not on the beach."
One year imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 baht (Rp 4.2 million) will be charged to people caught smoking and throwing cigarette butts on the beach.
Not without reason the Thai government enacted the regulation. According to research from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources of Thailand in a coastal area found 100,000 cigarette butts. The amount is 30 percent of the waste found in coastal areas.
