Celebrating the new year 2019!

Oups, I did it again ... 1GB of photos taken on the New Years eve! I used the "burst mode" on my telephone to capture the fireworks - it can be made into quite nice videos - however, selecting a handful of photos from the fireworks is not an easy task. Also, the fireworks started relatively modest and finished with the grand finale - at that time I had stopped taking photos.

The firework photos are covering the municipalities public fireworks at Pipervika - we're quite often staying at the Aker Brygge marina to experience it close-up. This time it was a bit in the distance - earlier it has been so close that we got lots of firework leftovers spread all over the boat. There are also lots and lots of private fireworks (though there are accidents every year - so most likely they will introduce a complete ban for private citizens to purchase, store and use fireworks - they've already banned the rocket-on-a-stick as well as private fireworks in the more central parts of Oslo by now). For a while there was some really spectacular firework behind us, apparently competing with the municipiality firework (must have been done by professionals), but not lasting for that long. I didn't take photos of that.

Here is one of the "kiss-and-sail"-quays ... I covered this in a previous post as well, then it was all occupied by long-term "guests".

The princess actually went to bed "early", maybe 45 minutes before the fireworks - because she was sleepy. No wonder, we got up at 05:00 to catch an airplane, and she didn't sleep after that. It's quite rare that she goes to bed on her own initiative. She slept very well through all the fireworks ...

The main dish ... turkey and waldorff salad

"Starters" - though this time they were served at the same time as the turkey. Russian salads (the one nearby the lilies is a herring salad), russian pickled mushrooms, tongue of the cow and some meat roll, baltic sprats and some veggies.

It's quite crowded on the boat, totally we were 9 persons.

This boat was just moving forth and back to observe the fireworks. Maybe they didn't want to pay the harbour fee? There was also one kayak out there observing the fireworks, I tried photographing it, but it was a bit too dark.

At first I didn't go far - just around the corner to fill the water tank - and then to my "home harbour" by quite some reduced sail area. It was really windy and quite much waves as well when I arrived there.

On the New Year thing ... came to think, for the Russians it's a great celebration, they are celebrating the start of their solstice holidays, they have more than a week of public holidays in the very beginning of the new year. For us it's the right opposite, we're celebrating the very end of our holidays, as the 2nd of January is a completely ordinary working day.
