UP member accused of Santal attack held

Four officials of Police Bureau of Investigation were injured as associates of a union parishad member, accused of arson attack on Santal houses in Gaibandha, attacked them following his arrest Sunday night.
The arrested, Shah Alam, is a member of Shapmara union parishad of Gobindaganj in Gaibandha.
Police and local people said that the police officials went to arrest Shah Alam at Shahebganj bazar at about 9:00pm on Sunday.
As they held him, Shah Alam’s men attacked the police officials, leaving four of them –– sub-inspectors Provat, Mojammel and Shah Jalal and constable Bazlur Rashid –– Injured.
PBI Gaibandha unit additional superintendent of police Anowar Hossain said that Shah Alam was an accused of arson attack on Santals in 2016.
As the police officials arrested him, his aides attacked on the cops in a bid to snatch away him, he said.
The police officials fired blank shots to contain the situation.
Shah Alam was now in police custody, he said.
