24 Shootings in Papua Throughout 2017

Police of Papua Police predict separatist movement in Papua in 2018 is still happening. The separatist movement of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia is also conducted by separatist groups with armed violence, as well as political struggles by exploiting international institutions and foreign NGOs.
The separatist groups in Papua often struggle for independence by raising the issue of human rights abuses committed by the Indonesian government, the implementation of otsus that failed to prosper the indigenous Papuans, and the implementation of the Pepera which was considered incompatible with the New Yok Agreeament.
The Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Boy Rafli Amar at the Papua Police Headquarters, said the separatist movement would continue to make opinions and influence the people and governments of other nations, to support the struggle for an independent Papua.
In fact, throughout 2017, the local police noted the number of shootings in Papua increased from a year earlier. This year, the number of shootings allegedly committed by armed groups amounted to 24 cases. The number increased 9 cases, compared to 2016 which occurred as many as 15 cases. Violence
Armed groups were carried out mostly in Puncak Jaya, Yapen Islands, Lanny Jaya and Mimika.
"As a result of this incident, six people died and two died from suspected members of armed groups, and nine people were injured," said Police Chief, Inspector General Boy Rafli Amar, Thursday (28/12/2017).

Integrated Task Force Operations Armed Groups

"Our members were also shot with two PT Freeport employees, and four LWB cars were hit and 2 haul trucks owned by Freeport were burned," he explained.
The joint operation of TNI / Polri in KKB countermeasures was not in vain. The three villages of Banti, Uktiki and Kimbeli that are controlled by armed groups can finally be seized by the combined apparatus.
Shortly after being controlled by TNI / Polri personnel, 3000 local people and settlers residing in the village were eventually evacuated to Timika Town.
'Almost most of the migrants in the village work as traders and miners in the village,' said Boy.

Meanwhile, in the final reflection of 2017, Papua Police also released 5 highest cases in Papua land, namely motor vehicle theft increased 17.6 percent from the previous year with the number of 1776 cases in 2016 and increased 2,088 cases in 2017.
