19-year-old Belgian girl Zara Rutherford is determined to break the record as the youngest woman to fly around the world alone. Zara will be looking to break the previous record held by Shaesta Waiz, the US pilot who also flew solo around the world in 2017.

He carried out his mission at the age of 30. Now, the 19-year-old Zara has ambitions to break Shaesta's record. Zara plans to fly from a runway in western Belgium, Kortrijk.

He would later fly alone across 5 continents and 52 countries to break that record. He estimates that the mission around the world will be completed in the next 2 or 3 months.

"I'm very nervous. I also can't believe it a bit. I think the next step is to check the weather again," Zara said shortly before airing, AP reports.

"Normally, I will arrive in Scotland in the evening. I am not sure it will work. But I will try my best, while maintaining safety of course," he continued.

Zara herself comes from a family of pilots. He started flying using a small plane at the young age of 6 years. Not only that, Zara is also very fond of skydiving from planes. The hobby started when he was 11 years old.

When asked what motivated her to break this solo flying record, Zara replied that she wanted to inspire other young girls to study science and technology more. Zara's father, Sam, said he was proud of his daughter. He will fully support his daughter's dreams, including the desire to fly solo around the world.

"This is her dream. It's something she wants to do. I'm very, very proud that she wants to attract more young girls to study aviation, math, science and technology," said Sam.
