Thoughts From "Fly-over" Country, Episode 1

So , looking at today's news, physical violence broke out in Berkeley, California, when Trump supporters, who were holding a rally build as a " Patriots Day'" , got into fistfights with a group of anti-Trump protesters. The physical violence also included protesters throwing cans and bottles at each other. Police had to use pepper spray to control the violence, and sixteen people were arrested.

The pro Trump rally was described as being held in celebration of 'free speech" . The anti-Trump rally did not seem to be organized around a specific theme, other than 'protest" I wonder to myself though, if you stopped and asked people on either the side of the debate, " what are you out here fighting about today?", would any of them have been able to really form a concise, sensible opinion about just why they felt the need to insult and physically hurt other people? Have we really de-volved into a place where we can't have differing opinions, and not beat each other up because of it? I'm sorry, I thought this was the United States of America, and that the right to have your own thoughts and opinions was one of the cornerstones of our society.

Here's my stand: I may not agree with your opinion but I respect, and even defend, your right to have it. If we all pledge to do the same, we will never see another scene like today in Berkeley, and we can get on with the re-building of our country TOGETHER.
