Walking Dead creators head to space

The creators of The Walking Dead are hoping to work their magic on a new sci-fi series set in space.

Skybound Entertainment has acquired the rights to transform Frederik Pohl’s novel Gateway into a show. Frederik Pohl IV will act as creative consultant on the project.

This is the third attempt at getting a series off the ground. Back in 2014 Entertainment One Television had a stab at it, and in 2015 SYFY's plan fell through.

The original novel Gatewayfollows Robinette Stetley Broadhead, who buys a one-way ticket for the space station Gateway in hopes of a better life. Gateway is filled with abandoned spaceships, which offer treasure seekers great rewards. However ships are preprogrammed for unknown destinations, which means that any would be looters are constantly in danger of being blasted off into unknown regions of space with no way to return.
