Boys from the Thai cave have been rescued under sedatives. Some of them were asleep
Twelve Thai boys and their coach are recovering at the hospital. So far they have no complications, some lose weight, and they could go home in a week. New, more detailed information from rescue action results. Some were transported in sleep, one of the divers is a professional anesthetist. By sedating, he wanted to prevent the panic that could overwhelm the operation.
One of the indispensable mission participants, Australian Richard Harris, has become a hero for millions of Thais. The anesthesiologist has been sinking under extreme conditions for thirty years. He persuaded the authorities to first remove the weakest boys who would otherwise not survive.
On the way out, he suggested giving them a light dose of sedatives to prevent the panic that could complicate the rescue of the diver; the voices of the professional public have repeatedly warned that inexperienced boys who can not even swim often can not only harm themselves but also their rescuers when they panicked. Stress and accelerated breathing would also mean a faster drop in air from the pressure bottles.
The cave complex at the Thai border with Myanmar, Australian Harris, left as one of the last. Instead of euphoria, however, a blow came. His father died when he got into the air. "Try to imagine physical and mental exhaustion after a rescue operation, and then you have to deal with this when you're completely down. That's really hard, "said Andrew Pearce, head of Australian rescuers.
Some children were asleep when they moved from the cave
Some of the members of the rescued soccer team "wild boar" are probably relocating from the cave in the daylight. It follows from the words of Chaiyanantaa Peeranarong, who said that some boys were transferred to sleep. Their condition and pulse were constantly checked by doctors stationed along the cave corridors.
"My task was to transfer them," the commander said, "the boys were chained to the stretcher."
The use of sedatives was announced by the Thai junta chief on Tuesday when he said the boys received a small dose of calming substances. It should help them ease nervous tension. He refused to conceal this information.
