More than 400 people are evacuated because of the fires on Madeira
The authorities of Portugal evacuated more than 400 people from the areas of the island of Madeira captured by powerful wildfires.
On the shots shown on local television it is visible how residents of the capital of the island - the city of Funchal - desperately try to extinguish fire by means of garden hoses and buckets with water.
According to the head of the regional government Miguel Albuquerque, tens of people have asked for medical care because of poisoning with a smoke.
The mainland of Portugal also suffers from the fires. About 4 thousand firefighters and 26 planes take part in their suppression.
The most difficult situation - in the north of the country where the pine and eucalyptus woods burn, and air temperature exceeds 30 degrees.
The smell of burning and smoke from the fires are felt also in the capital of the country Lisbon.
Wildfires quite often arise in Portugal in August when in the territory of the country dry and hot weather is established.
