Catalonia will declare independence if the referendum is not allowed

in #news7 years ago (edited)

The Catalonian govt has been planning a draft law behind closed to doors which would execute an independence order in a matter of 48 hours which in case the Spanish central government decides to disallow a regional referendum asking the following question.

Would you like Catalonia to be an independent state outside of Spain?

Mainstream newspapers and television are already busy making this secret plan look like some sort of coup from what I have been reading this morning.

Catalonia is pushing ahead more slowly than expected with its independence plan as separatist leaders change tactics and avoid direct confrontation with Madrid in their bid to break away from Spain.

After winning a parliamentary majority in a regional election in Catalonia in September, the pro-independence parties vowed to implement an 18-month roadmap for independence from Spain by 2017.The plan calls for the regional government to create basic laws, a tax system and state structure for the wealthy, industrialised northeastern region whose capital Barcelona is a major tourist draw. But Catalonia has so far done little to implement the plan, to the relief of national political parties and the central government in Madrid which are gearing up for a repeat general election on June 26th.The polls - the second in just six months  come after bickering parties failed to reach an agreement on a coalition government following inconclusive elections in December that left Spain in political limbo with a caretaker government with limited powers."The separatists who thought a quick and unilateral solution was possible are realising that this is not the case. This is why they are looking for an interlocutor to talk to," said Miquel Iceta, head of the Socialists' Catalan faction which opposes independence.Catalan separatists have restarted their talks with acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's conservative government, which had been practically non-existent.

What has happened in Catalonia?

When Catalan nationalists held an unofficial poll in November 2014, 80% of those who voted backed independence. The vote was non-binding as the Constitutional Court had ruled it illegal. But the secessionists viewed it as a defining moment and declared regional elections in September 2015 would be a de facto referendum on independence.Catalan nationalist parties won an absolute majority in the 135-seat regional assembly and on 9 November pushed through a motion to start the process towards independence. The Spanish government has hit back, declaring the secessionist step unconstitutional.

My opinion : I think there should be a referendum allowed on a regional level, most Spanish people here have a strange attitude towards this process. They argue that for a such a vote to take place the entire country would have to participate, I tend to disagree what is your opinion on this matter?

Hope they do just say we are sone. Spain and us are no more. It would be brilliant.

We all need to learn to be more free and stop relying on central governments to sort our problems. At least give us a chance to prove that we can do this better on our own.

If catalonia had a referendum, in Andalusia we want to be independence too

Nacion Andaluza
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nacionalismo_andaluz (i recomend the spanish version, more complete)

and what about the Basques :) ?

Independence for all!!! and Navarra, Aragon, Canary Islands, Valencia, reunification of Castilles, the new lusogaloastur state and Madrid alone.... Ah, Baleares goes to Germany or Britain, you will see

How about Balearic Islands go to Catalonia since that's where they belong...?

They are crazy... it will be its ruin

I dont completely agree, I just dont want to see a forced indepence forced upon the people. A legitimate referendum would at least help us to see a clearer picture of what the citizens in that region want. It would be a ruin for the rest of Spain if they were to do such a thing but not allowing for a vote seems much more in the lines of a dictatorship than a democrazy like we are told we live in.

I would do a referendum, this is the solution, but I would say to people all consecuences of the independence.

It will be the end of Spain lol, that's also the exact reason why they're not allowing it.

CATALONIA IS SPAIN: some politicians want an illegal secession from Spain, ILLEGAL FAKE VOTING!

Imagine that Babaria in Germany wants to separate from Germany, or that Provence wants to separate from France, or California wants to separate from the USA.

Do you think that Germany, France or the USA would allow such secession to happen?

Obviously not, because they are integral parts of their countries, the same than Catalonia is an integral part of Spain since the times before the Roman Invasion of the Iberian Peninsula.

If such an attempt of secession would happen on those countries, they will apply the law to stop it and the police and even the army to enforce the law because that is the reason of being of the police and the army.

That's exactly what is happening in Spain, the law, the Spanish Constitution and the orders from the Judges are being applied to stop an illegal voting instigated by the insurgent regional government in Catalonia.

The police is closing the places where the illegal voting is attempted and seizing all the illegal material, but the police are finding resistance and violence from some people with wounded people and police as result. The police need to use the proportional force when required to complete the work that the judges have ordered them with to enforce the law.

Catalonia is an integral part of Spain and it will always continue to be, that is not negotiable.

In the S.XX the secessionist took us to a Civil War, we are now heading to a similar situation so a future second Civil War in Spain is unfortunately now possible. We hope that this time the international community, Europe, and the UN supports the democratic government of Spain to reject the insurgent secessionists and avoid war.

Catalonia already had an autonomous government with more powers that the government of Scotland have

But what the politicians from the Catalonia region want is not self-governing, that they already have, but complete secession from Spain and that is utterly impossible.

Spaniards are very friendly and peacefull people but we cannot allow some local politicians to execute a secession are steal part of Spain from all the Spanish people.

CATALONIA IS SPAIN

Second Spanish Civil War ready to start: the Catalonian secessionist will lose again.

The Spaniards, from inside the Catalonia region and from the rest of Spain also, will never allow for a group of left fascist secessionist to steal part of the Spanish land, and we are ready to fight for it!

On the 6th of October of 1934 Campanys declared the Catalonian State and we went to the first Civil War.

Now 83 years later, on the 4th of October Puigndemont is going the declare again the Catalonian State, and we will win the war again!
