Five effects of the US withdrawal from the Paris Convention on Climate Change

As a candidate for the presidential election, US President Donald Trump pledged to withdraw from the Paris Climate Convention.

But after winning the election in November 2016, he made several statements about the climate change issue, and there were reports of a split between Trump's advisers on the issue, and there was controversy over his conviction of staying in the agreement and not withdrawing.

But Trump did not wait long, and held a press conference at the White House on June 1, to announce the official withdrawal of America from the Paris Climate Convention.

"In order to fulfill my duty to protect America and its people, we will come out of the Paris agreement but we will start negotiations on a new, more just agreement," he said, adding that the agreement was "extremely unfair to the United States.

As expected, this announcement sparked outrage within and outside America, and Democrats and many world leaders condemned Trump's decision.

Former President Barack Obama accused the Trump administration of "rejecting the future," while former Secretary of State John Kerry called the decision "a complete abdication of world leadership."
