Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Is a Solid Spinoff of Gaming's Biggest Adventure

One of the funnier things that happens to a long-running movie or video game franchise is when titles stop having numbers. You know: Rocky Balboa, Die Hard With a Vengeance, or the three most recent Call of Duty games. It's an almost tacit admission of ridiculousness, like the movie or game is sighing and saying, Yeah, okay, let's not think about how long we've been doing this. The franchise must go on, and it demands we go along with it.

While Uncharted: The Lost Legacy may seem like a stopgap or a trial balloon—something that was released to see how receptive the Playstation-owning public would be to a soft reboot of one of their marquee game franchises—regarding it as a lesser game would be disingenuous. Uncharted, as a series, is pure popcorn, about fun, morally flexible adventurers going on grand journeys that are always minutes away from disaster. They're games that could certainly feel better to play—for all its realism, Uncharted's characters at times seem like they're made of magnets, being pulled the final few inches to whatever ledge they're on—but playing an Uncharted game isn't so much about being in an action movie as it is about steering one. Get behind the wheel of The Lost Legacy, and you'll want to take it to the absolutely thrilling end.
