Operation Trashi in Kishtwar: Major action by security forces against terrorists.
A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists at Singhpora area of Chatru in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at around 1:25 pm. The operation named Operation Trashi was launched after receiving accurate intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area.
A joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army and paramilitary forces launched a cordon and search operation in the dense area of Kishtwar to reach the terrorists. An exchange of fire broke out and additional troops were immediately deployed to strengthen the cordon and neutralize the threat. The operation is active, with security forces working to eliminate terrorists hiding in the area. The encounter comes after a previous operation in the same area revealed that the terrorists may belong to a group that was not caught earlier.
This attack by Jaish-e-Mohammed prompted several offensive operations, including the recent encounters in Pulwama and Shopian, where several terrorists, including key Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists, were killed. Security forces have also taken steps such as demolition of assets linked to terrorists and extensive searches to dismantle terror networks. The Kishtwar operation reflects the continued pressure on terrorist groups active in the region, especially those linked to cross-border groups. The operation in Kishtwar is in line with the larger framework of Operation Sindoor launched in May 2025, aimed at targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK).
This strategic response was launched to counter the growing threat of cross-border terrorism after the Pahalgam attack. The ongoing encounter in Kishtwar highlights the persistent challenge of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, where security forces are grappling with both local and foreign terrorists.
As the region has witnessed a rise in such operations, security agencies are keeping a close watch to prevent further attacks and disrupt terror networks. As the situation evolves, the focus is on decisively dealing with the terror threat as well as ensuring the safety of civilians. The deployment of additional forces and the use of advanced surveillance technologies underline the commitment of the security forces to restore peace in the region. The outcome of Operation Trashi could be significant for the ongoing fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in eliminating the operational capabilities of groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed. Security forces are constantly monitoring the situation and updates are expected as the operation progresses.
