RE: Scientists Using Blockchain to Stop Monsanto from Taking Over Cannabis Industry

in #news6 years ago

as long as cannabis is illegal on the federal level they cannot patent it. No one can. What if Monsanto did patent some cannabis or create GMO cannabis, what would the results be?

A barcoding system based on genetics offers maximal scientific utility to the grower and user community compared to the present RFID tag via arbitrary number barcoding systems,” McKernan said.

Of course both are stupid and only exist because states like Colorado have totally insane laws requiring every plant to be tracked and traced, the best solution to this problem would be to end those absurd requirements. They are treating cannabis like it is nuclear material except with more paperwork and security.

Sort:

Maybe they should come over to Canada and patent it here until US wakes up to the program.

If 10% of Canadians smoke an average of one eight a week the gross revenue from cannabis in Canada is less than 8 billion a year. For whatever portion of that market they could capture it wouldn't be worth it, probably not every Canadian pot smoker would choose Monsanto's patented GMO pot would they? Unless it is really incredible and if its that good and everyone likes it then what's the harm?
