MOSCOW/WASHINGTON, D.C. - The United States seeks to provide new capabilities to its nuclear forces, which increases the possibility of their use, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday. "We would like to point out that Washington is not only upgrading its nuclear forces but also seeks to provide them with new capabilities, which significantly increases the possibility of their use. Particularly concerning are the United States’ moves to expand the range of low-powered weapons, including the development and deployment of munitions designed for strategic delivery vehicles," she stated, TASS reported. "This clearly lowers the... Continue ->

DAMASCUS - Syria's Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari said that the Syrian government and the Syrian nation will not allow Turkey to split and annex any part of the Arab country’s embattled northwestern province of Idlib or any other Syrian territory. “I can confirm that Syrian leadership besides Syrian people will not allow [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan or anyone else to repeat in Idlib what happened in Alexandretta," Jaafari stated in an exclusive interview with online newspaper El-Nashra on Saturday. In 1939, Turkey annexed the historically Syrian land of Alexandretta to its territory and renamed it as the province of... Continue ->

Nihilism and International Politics - Of False Flags and Staged Attacks

Published 2020-03-09 21:35:02 by Guest Author in Anglo-5, Chemical-Weapons, Headline-News, Isis, Mena, Opinions, Syria, United-States

By Amir Azarvan -Assistant Professor of Political Science, Georgia Gwinnett College - [email protected]   From the sinking of the RMS Lusitania to the apparently staged chemical attack in Douma, humanity has witnessed a plethora of false - or, at minimum, highly dubious - pretexts for war. This fact could be explained, of course, by certain changes that resulted... Continue ->

Published 2020-03-09 06:23:53 by Curwen Ares Rolinson in Abkhazia, Anglo-5, Cambodia, Eurasia, Headline-News, Nato, Politics, United-States, Vietnam

So over the past few days in Afghanistan, there've been more than six dozen Taliban attacks and the US has resumed airstrikes against them. Yet I seem to keep running across people hailing Trump as some kind of visionary diplomatic savant (as opposed to the *other* kind of savant) who's scored some kind of history-diverting coup in securing a sort of 'peace with honour' deal in Afghanistan. "Peace with Honour", now *there's* a historically resonant phrase. Trump is often compared to Nixon, for reasons that should probably be obvious (although with the people making the comparisons generally forgetting that Nixon... Continue ->
