Jung's death is likely due to stress and pressure due to workload.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEOUL - A South Korean government official in charge of regulating digital currency restrictions or cryptocurrency was found dead at his home. The official is Jun Ki-joon who is the head of economic policy coordination at the Government Policy Coordinating Office.
Reported by CNBC on Wednesday (21/2), police suspect Jun suffered a heart attack while asleep. But to ensure his death, police are awaiting the results of the examination of the coroner division.
A government spokesman said 52-year-old Jung died from several unknown causes. A number of his colleagues suspect that Jung's death is likely due to stress and pressure due to the task burden.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported that Jung is responsible for coordinating proposals from various ministries regarding the rules of the digital currency. The plan of Coordinating Minister of Government Policy Hong Nam-ki will hold weekly coordination meeting to discuss digital currency.
South Korea began increasing its oversight of bitcoins and other digital currencies at the end of last year. Local officials are planning to close the trade in digital currencies because they are considered to be at high risk.
