Facebook is facing the heat after Cambridge Analytica, a British consulting company, is accused of harvesting data of up to 50 million Facebook users without permission and using the data to help politicians, including US President Donald Trump and the Brexit campaign

Kind of true. Data was harvested by a Facebook app that went viral called 'thisismydigitallife,' which was built by Aleksandr Kogan, a Cambridge academic. Users gave their consent (with or without knowing) to release their personal information along with information on their friend's accounts as well.

Cambridge Analytica paid Kogan for that data, which they then morphed into data-backed psychological profiles of potential voters.
