Storm Ophelia Victims - Their Tragic Stories

Cancer nurse Clare O’Neill was the first of three people to die as a result of the extreme weather. She was killed when part of a tree smashed through her car windscreen and struck her in the chest.

A passenger in her 70s, believed to be her mother, was taken to the nearby Waterford Regional Hospital where she is receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the accident

Michael Pyke, a 31-year-old man from Ardfinnan, Co. Tipperary, was killed in a chainsaw accident while trying to clear a fallen tree in Ballybrado, near Cahir. Pyke, the youngest of 11 children

Married father-of-two Fintan Goss, 33, from Dundalk in Co. Louth, was named as Ophelia’s third victim. Goss, who became a father for the second time only two weeks ago, died when 191kmph winds thrust a tree into his car. He was killed in Ravensdale, Dundalk, at around 2.45pm, gardai said.
