My comment on: ‘Snowflake students’ get University to apologize for calling snow white

in #news7 years ago

We all know the song White Christmas, but did you know that the words are inherently racist? Well, they aren't. White Christmas is a song about snow being white, which in fact it is.

Unfortunately, after tweeting something about dreaming of a white campus in relation to whether facilities would be open due to the recent weather difficulties, UCL (University College London) had to issue an apology because of hyperthetical racial undertones which the phrase could infer.

University College London was forced to apologize after a “dreaming of a white campus” tweet was deemed racist by “snowflake students.” The tweet had been intended to let students know the campus was still open as some parts of Britain remained covered by 13 inches of snow.

This reminds me of the 1970, when left-wing activists decided that using the term 'blackboard' could cause black students to become self-conscious about their colour. Of course, after all the activism about it, black students did become self-conscious about the words because race had been pushed in their faces so many times. This led to teachers being forced to use the term 'chalkboard'.

This thing with the colour of snow may seem a bit silly now, but just wait a year or two and we will see that snowmen (oop, snowpeople!) will no longer be depicted as white in movies or elsewhere. Why? Because, according to some people, everything and everyone is racist!
