Real Madrid win at Balaidos despite Casemiro moving to Manchester United

in #news2 years ago

Real Madrid made it back-to-back wins from their opening two La Liga fixtures as Los Blancos sealed a comfortable 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo at Balaidos to extend their unbeaten run over the Galician side to seventeen matches.

Despite the home side being buoyed by a loud partisan crowd, Madrid took the lead in the 13th minute courtesy of a Karim Benzema penalty after Renato Tapia handled the ball in the area.

Celta then had a spot-kick of their own just 10 minutes later for yet another handball, as Goncalo Paciencia’s header came back off the hand of Eder Militao in the box. Iago Aspas powerfully struck home the penalty to get his side back on level terms.

Real Madrid have had a difficult week, losing Casemiro in a transfer to Manchester United, yet Carlo Ancelotti's side were able to ease to an away victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday evening.

Los Merengues started a lot quicker than in their LaLiga Santander opener, with Karim Benzema having the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot in the 13th minute.

VAR looked at the incident which saw the ball strike the hand of Renato Tapia and a penalty was awarded.

Benzema struck the spot-kick past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner, but the hosts were able to answer back almost immediately.

Rather ironically, Celta Vigo were level in the 22nd minute with a penalty of their own. Eder Militao handled the ball and a penalty was given to the hosts, with Iago Aspas converting the set-piece.

Luka Modric put Real Madrid back in front on the 41st minute with a shot from long-range which just snuck inside the right-hand post.

Vinicius Jr got in on the act and made it 3-1, bursting into the penalty area following a quite sensational individual run.

The Brazilian breezed through defenders and got into a one-on-one situation with the opposing goalkeeper, who he comfortably rounded before rolling the ball into an empty net.

With the highlight of the match having been provided by Vinicius Jr, the Brazilian was once again in the thick of the action.

He played a pass into the path of Federico Valverde, who got onto the loose ball and side-footed the ball into the bottom left-corner of the net.

The evening could have been capped off perfectly when Eden Hazard took a penalty-kick in the 87th minute, however the Belgian's penalty was saved by Agustin Marchesin diving down to his left.

The victory keeps Real Madrid at 100 percent in the start of the LaLiga Santander campaign and the squad appear very connected moving forward.

By the time Manchester United entered talks with Real Madrid for Casemiro, it’s been learned that apart from the Brazilian, a certain Marco Asensio’s profile was also discussed between the teams.

It’s no secret that with only a handful of days left before the transfer window slams shut, Real Madrid are open to selling their 26-year-old winger. This was made evident as he failed to get minutes in each of Madrid’s two official games this season.

As of today, despite his contract expiring in 2023, the Los Blancos are yet to enter talks over potential renewal. In fact, the possibility seems extremely unlikely as the 26-year-old is way down the pecking order anyway.

For now, many publications have described Asensio’s situation as a mere dead end as there is no news on where he will end up by the end of the transfer window. And this is why Madrid offered him to Manchester United as they know the Premier League side is hunting for a winger.

In that regard, while Ajax’s Antony remains their priority target, they might be forced to look elsewhere as the Dutch side seems reluctant to part ways.

As for Asensio, he switched his agent from Horacio Gaggioli to sign with Jorge Mendes towards the end of the previous season with an intention to find a new team. But for now, there seems to be no solution in place.

But if there is anything concrete between now and September 1, Madrid will not stand in his way despite their roster getting thinner.

In any way, the bottom line is the departure of Asensio from Real Madrid rank as the unspoken truth that remains is that he is no longer in Ancelotti’s plans.

Then, a moment of magic from Luka Modric proved to be the pick of the goals. The midfielder fired in a beautiful curling strike from 20 yards out into the top corner right at the end of the first half.

Los Blancos then had their third in the 56th minute, as Vinicius Jr. rounded Celta goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin after a clinical counter attack.

The rout was complete in the 67th minute, as Federico Valverde slotted in a powerful shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area to well and truly seal the three points for Real Madrid.

Substitute Eden Hazard then had his penalty saved by Marchesin right at the death as Los Blancos could not add to their lead.
