Given their vast surveillance tools, I would venture that Uncle Sam's stargazers have also established at least the semblance of an African "air base" in the Saharan skies. It's probably not a coincidence that Trump recently announced a new branch of the military that would place its laser focus on the friendly skies of nanosatellites, EMP's and DEW's. These Special Operators in Space probably bearing some watching, too...
